Weather

Windy in the morning - mist on Lochnagar but then fine

Starting point :  Spittal of Glenmuick

This group of five Munros forms a high-level circuit around Loch Muick. Lochnagar, the highest peak, is a favourite winter climbing haunt with the other summits having less character. I met Jake in the car park, wondering what route to do up the mountain. He seemed quite happy to team up for the 5 Munros and we spend a very sociable day comparing notes on mountaincraft. As we climbed the very good track and path up Lochnagar the wind was increasing steadily. By the time we were walking around the rim of mountain it was gusting very strongly so as to knock you off balance if you were not careful. The summit was reached but the mist was down and we did not get a view. Another peak to add to the “to do again list”! The mist was still down as we set off to find the next summit of the day, Carn a’Choire Bhoidheach. This was off on a small detour from the main path and was quite an insubstantial summit. The route to the next three summits was very easily followed after the mist had cleared and the distance and height difference between them was not very significant. The descent down to and along Loch Muick did however go on for a long time before we eventually got back to the car.
